Present Shock II
Present Shock II confronts the viewer with a barrage of statistical clocks displaying real-time data sourced from the internet. Juxtaposing life-changing global events related to consumption and environmental issues with the banal trivia of everyday existence, the work embodies the 'context collapse' of our present moment, disrupting our sense of time, coherence, and reality.
This artwork marks an inception point for UVA’s practice, reimagining the real-time data installation created with Robert Del Naja for Massive Attacks 100th Window Tour in 2003. The sound for the work is dynamically generated by an audio system developed by Del Naja in collaboration with adaptive producer Robert Thomas.
Expedition One runs alongside three live shows being held at M&S Bank Arena by Massive Attack, Nile Rodgers and IDLES.
