The Light Before Christmas: The Gift

Now in its fourth year, The Light Before Christmas returns to Liverpool Cathedral with a brand-new theme: The Gift.

Once again, The Cathedral's neo-gothic architecture is transformed by Luxmuralis into an awe-inspiring canvas of immersive projections and a new soundscape. 
 
The journey begins with enchanting scenes that capture the magic of Christmas Eve: Santa and his reindeers soaring through the night sky, snowflakes drifting down, and festive decorations filling the space with wonder. 
 
Guided by a cascade of swirling stars, you are led through the main space of the cathedral, where the timeless story of the nativity unfolds, projected on the high altar. Here, the three wise men follow the radiant star, offering their gifts and reminding us of the true gift at the heart of Christmas. 
 
Along the way, take a moment to capture a festive photo with your loved ones by the Christmas tree before continuing through a world of seasonal imagery, from poinsettias and mistletoe to radiant angels and symbols of hope.  
 
As the experience draws to a close, you are invited to pause, light a candle, and reflect on a gift you might give yourself this year - a gesture of hope, love, peace and self-blessing that connects your own story to the enduring spirit of Christmas.

Luxmuralis
Sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper make up the artistic collaboration Luxmuralis. The team produces large-scale light and sound shows many of which are known as a Son-et-Lumiere.
