Cunard Building Heritage Tours – Exclusive Access to Liverpool’s Transatlantic Past

Step inside one of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks with this rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Grade II* listed Cunard Building. Once the headquarters of the world-famous Cunard Line, the building played a central role in transatlantic travel, migration and maritime history.

Led by expert guides from Liverpool City Council’s Heritage team, this one-hour tour takes you into areas normally closed to the public, including the atmospheric basement levels and the historic ground-floor Arrivals Lounge. These remarkable spaces once welcomed passengers from across the globe and still hold the architectural detail, stories and character of Liverpool’s golden age of ocean travel.

Discover how the building functioned during the height of the liner era, explore the craftsmanship that shaped its Beaux-Arts design, and hear stories of the people who worked and travelled through the Cunard Building - from seafarers and migrants to the cultural figures who helped define Liverpool’s international identity.

Weekend tours also include access to the building’s upper boardrooms, offering an additional opportunity to experience some of its most impressive interior spaces.
Weekday tours focus on the ground floor and basement levels, where the stories of arrivals, departures and daily operations come to life.

Whether you’re a history lover, architecture fan, or simply curious about what lies behind the famous Portland stone façade, this guided experience offers a unique chance to explore one of the city’s most important heritage sites.
