[short_description]
Welcome to The Comeback Special, a story that exists in a mythical, magical place called Fazakerley and tells the tale of a bunch of scallies, a lot of weed, a ridiculous amount of swearing and the ghost of somebody who may (or may not) be ‘The King of Rock’n’Roll’.
Robbie has a power. It’s not a unique power, his Nan had it too; in a lot of ways all this is his nan’s fault. If she’d listened to the ghost in the white jumpsuit maybe Robbie wouldn’t have to. But then the fame, the fortune, the girl, and the lad who wants to kill him wouldn’t be there and he’s more than happy with three of those things.
The Comeback Special is the Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize 2015 Highly Commended Award winning play from Ian Salmon, writer of the multiple five star reviewed Those Two Weeks and Venus Rising and author of They Say Our Days Are Numbered.
The play had its premiere in 2017’s Cornerstone Festival to sold out houses and rapturous response; now this dark, laugh a minute comedy about one ordinary scally with one unbelievable gift returns for four nights in Hope Street’s new Hope Street Theatre with Callum Downes, Tom Highton and Ian Avery reprising their roles as Robbie, Karl and Elvis.
A warning though: if you’re at all offended by any of the following, then this really isn’t for you -
Drugs. Quite a lot of drugs.
FIFA. (The game, not the organisation.)
Ghosts.
Swearing. Lots of swearing. Loads of it. More uses of the word f**** than Goodfellas.
The finest damn comedy you’ll see all year.
If that sounds good though? We’ll see you at Hope Street in September, you’re our kind of audience.
