John Law's ReCreations Ft. Parliamentary Jazz Award Winner Sam Crockatt on saxophones
Known mainly for his Congregation, playing his original compositions, mixing jazz, and electronics, as well as classical projects, John Law (“One of the UK’s most imaginative and versatile jazz pianists” - International Piano Magazine, 2014) has put together a stunning new group of young musicians, playing arrangements of other people’s tunes.
In a move away from electronics to this purely acoustic group, Re-Creations present music not just from the standard jazz repertoire but also from pop and indie (Beatles, Radiohead, Adele, Daft Punk), a band which manages to play highly accessible melodic music and recognised tunes in extremely creative and interactive arrangements, simple and complex, with an emphasis on spontaneous interaction in a group of highly versatile young musicians.
Sam Crockatt, saxophones, is a UK Parliamentary Jazz Award winner and himself a bandleader and composer who has performed and recorded with Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes. Above all a really melodic improviser..
James Agg, one of the best-kept secrets of the UK jazz world, one already full to the brim with amazing young talent! With perfect ears and a brilliant double bass technique, James is also one of the most important melodic voices in the group, while simultaneously holding down much of the rhythm.
Billy Weir is one of the new breed of drummers, at home in all the intricate rhythmic complexities of contemporary jazz, who also take pleasure in the joy and function of a simple, driving and wonderfully supportive groove!
