Over the years, Random/Control has developed a very distinct band sound and approach adopting projects that transform different musical material to their very idiosyncratic instrumentation. For instance, the group began its life with interpretations of Austrian folk music and performances of Helbock’s original compositions. Now, more recently, the trio’s repertoire derives inspiration from the music of Helbock’s favourite jazz piano players, with arrangements of some of their most famous tunes. New, exciting versions of Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock or Bolivia by Cedar Walton have emerged, but also soft, atmospheric pieces like Keith Jarrett´s My Song shine like new.
